Pa. gaming revenue rises in May

Pennsylvania’s revenue generated from gaming in May 2024 rose to $520,997,868, an increase of more than 8.6% over last May, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced.

Slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests, and video gaming terminals are sources of gaming revenue regulated by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB). Total tax revenue generated collectively through all forms of gaming and fantasy contests in May 2024 was $216,300,232.

May’s revenue from the play of retail slot machines was $214,133,424, a 1.55% increase over the $210,862,268 generated a year ago at this time. The number of slot machines in operation in May 2024 was 24,862, less than the 25,495 at the casinos in May 2023. Tax revenue from slots machines this May was $108,393,393.

Retail Table games revenue for May 2024 was $83,725,161, an increase of 2.54% from May 2023 when revenue was $81,648,355. Total tax revenue from table games play during this May was $13,837,027.

Internet Casino-Type Gaming (iGaming) generated monthly gross revenue totaling $174,089,510 during May 2024 compared to $140,971,051 last May, an increase of 23.49%.

May 2024, total sports wagering handle was $591,912,626, a 19.44% increase over the $495,585,360 from a year ago at this time. Taxable revenue figure for May 2024 was $44,212,853, 7.56% higher than the May 2023 taxable revenue of $41,104,590. Tax revenue generated from sports wagering during this May was $15,916,62.

Total adjusted revenue for May 2024 for video gaming terminals (VGTs) was $3,686,448, or 3.03% higher than the May 2023 revenue of $3,577,972. By the end of this May, VGT Operators offered the maximum permitted five machines at 74 qualified truck stop establishments, an increase over the five machines at 68 establishments at this time last year. Tax revenue collected from VGTs this May was $1,916,953.

Revenue from Fantasy Contests in May 2024 was $1,150,472, a decrease of 5.19% over May 2023 revenue of $1,213,424. Tax revenue collected from Fantasy Contests in May 2024 was $172,571.
