Cops arrest young parents, 30 and 28, say they deserted 'crying' infant on 90-degree beach to go boating on New York lake

A young couple have been arrested after allegedly leaving their baby alone on a beach in Lake George in the stifling heat while they went boating on the upstate New York lake.

Pau and Mary Thorley, 30 and 28, respectively, of Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania , were each charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

The ordeal took place on Tuesday at Lake Shore Drive when a Good Samaritan heard a child crying incessantly. Once the bystander got closer they saw the child had been left unattended - and only a few feet away from the shoreline.

Troopers from the State Police of Queensbury were called around 5:45 pm, and learned that the child was allegedly alone for at least 15 minutes while the parents were enjoying a boat ride on the lake, officials said in a news release .

Temperatures in Lake George on Tuesday reached a sweltering 97 degrees.

'The investigation determined a passerby heard a child crying for an extended period of time and discovered the child alone on the beach approximately five feet from the shoreline,' the cops said.

Trooper Stephanie O'Neil, New York State Public Information Officer Troop G, said she was not able to disclose the age or gender of the child, but confirmed to DailyMail.com that the child was an 'infant' under one year of age.

She also said the baby was not injured.

'The child was evaluated and did not need further medical care,' she said.

She added that 'the child was turned over to a family member.'

After their arrest, the couple, who are from the Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania area, were issued appearance tickets before they were released, News10 .

They are scheduled to appear at the Lake George Town Court on Thursday.

The Public Information Officer told DailyMail.com that the case has been turned over to the Warren County District Attorney's office.

Warren County DA James Carusone, did not respond to our request for comment.

News of the couple's negligence caused an uproar online with many shaking their head and asking, 'what the heck is wrong with people.'

'Some parents shouldn't have kids,' one person wrote.|

Another said, in part, 'no common sense! How did they think that doing something like that is okay?'

'Sickening,' another person quipped, in part. 'Probably just going to get a a slap on the hand and say don't do it again.'

Another disturbed reader called the parents 'careless' and said the child 'could have drowned or disappeared.'

'The weather in New York was in the high 90s! Who does that. I hope they were drug tested,' said another.
