    President Joe Biden will deliver an address from the Oval Office on Sunday night regarding the shooting that happened during Donald Trump's campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

    During a news conference Sunday afternoon, Biden said he would speak at greater lengths about the shooting Sunday evening. His afternoon news conference lasted about three minutes. Biden gave sympathy to the family of firefighter Corey Comperatore who was a victim in the shooting , while calling for unity.

    Biden did not take any questions from the media at his afternoon news conference. Information about the motive of the shooter is still unknown, but that hasn't stopped false news from spreading on social media. Biden asked for the public to stop posting inaccurate information.

    "Don't make assumptions about his motive or his affiliations," Biden said during the news conference. "Let the FBI do their job... I am instructed that this investigation be thorough and swift, and the investigators will have every resource they need to get this done."

    Biden said he would address the nation from the Oval Office and speak about the situation at great length at 8 p.m. Eastern on Sunday.

    "As I said last night, there is no place in America for this kind of violence, or any violence for that matter. An assassination attempt is contrary to everything we stand for as a nation. Everything. It's not who we are as a nation. It's not American, and we can't allow this to happen," Biden said.

    Biden did not go into details about what he would say on Sunday evening, but he did say he would talk at greater lengths about unity.

    "I will be speaking about this at greater lengths tonight from the Oval Office," Biden said. "We must unite as one nation, and demonstrate who we are," Biden said.

    Oval Office addresses are not the average run-of-the-mill speeches. This space is usually used for addresses on issues of national importance. This will be Biden's third Oval Office address since taking office.

    Biden's most recent Oval Office address was Oct. 19, 2023, when he called for more aid for Israel and Ukraine . His first time speaking to the public from the Oval Office was June 2, 2023. He spoke after former U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy helped negotiate an end to a debt limit crisis .

    Trump gave two Oval Office addresses during his time in office. The first one was regarding the government shutdown and border patrol on Jan. 8, 2019, and the second was March 11, 2020, regarding the coronavirus pandemic .
