Former President Donald Trump said former first lady Melania Trump still cannot talk about the assassination attempt that took place earlier this month.
“She was watching live,” Donald Trump told Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle, explaining he later asked her what she felt in the moment. “She can’t even really talk about it.”
“When I went down, she thought the worst had happened,” he added.
Donald Trump coyly noted that his wife's inability to discuss her feelings is “OK because that means she likes me or she loves me.”
“Let’s say she could talk about it freely, that wouldn’t be — I’m not so sure which is better, but she either likes or loves me and that’s nice,” Donald Trump said.
The 2024 Republican presidential nominee said he was feeling good himself since a bullet grazed his right ear at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.
Donald Trump has agreed to meet with FBI agents for a victim interview as part of the bureau’s investigation of the event.
The assassination attempt has sparked intense criticism of the Secret Service, causing several Republican lawmakers to investigate the event. Despite the criticism, Donald Trump praised the Secret Service agents’ bravery, saying they rushed to him onstage while bullets were still flying through the air.
Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned following her testimony before the House Oversight Committee last week. Since then, the House has also voted unanimously to establish a task force to investigate the assassination attempt and expose security failures that left one person dead and three others, including Donald Trump, injured.

James Copenhaver, 74, was discharged from Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh on Friday. His family described his injuries as “life-altering.”
David Dutch, the other injured rallygoer, was discharged from the hospital last Wednesday after being shot in the chest and liver.
