Moms for Liberty has agenda to destroy public education

Every child deserves a quality education. We’re fortunate that Santa Rosa County Public Schools have a history of being in the Top 10 in the state.

The Moms for Liberty, a group of extremists , are passionate about destroying public education and restricting freedoms for students and teachers. The Moms for Liberty, motivated by a political ideology, are attacking schools on the diversity of their student population and allowing the freedom of expression. Public schools provide education for all students. The goal of Moms for Liberty is to discredit public schools to increase private school enrollment and bankrupt public education.

Stop this attack from Moms for Liberty! Your vote this August during the Florida primaries is important. Elect leaders in Florida that stand up for our public schools, teachers and promote our freedoms not restrictions.

Protect our free and quality public education for all students. Protect our future leaders and freedoms. Vote in August.

Law enforcement must deal with autistic children better

Autism speaks. The sheriff's office needs to hear more and make better judgements when it comes to special needs children. My 10-year-old nonverbal autistic boy, who takes medication that affects him in direct sun after a short period, was detained for good reasons and fined accordingly.

The officer had a chance to be a hero and comfort him and escort him home or drive him there, but instead had him stay out in the direct sun and punch himself repletely, let alone not listen to his aunt explain his situation. This is unsatisfactory behavior.

And not one sheriff's office person has returned our call.

Region being destroyed by Democrat wolves in GOP clothing

Are you familiar with the term, “Democratic Socialism”? That is when the central government makes all the laws and rules for the smaller governments under them. That is what Tallahassee is doing to local smaller counties and cities and school districts.

The Tallahassee democratic socialists are in total power and are making things that used to be the decision of counties and local school boards. They have even told county election officials how to run their jobs. Our governor is the most effective “social Democrat” ever in that office.

These socialist rules mean that, what is good for Miami-Dade, is good for Santa Rosa County. These rules have allowed the same runaway development that is destroying South Florida to now quickly destroy Northwest Florida.

The Northwest Florida we all love is being destroyed by Tallahassee and the “Democratic Socialists” who call themselves Republicans - yet are really wolves in sheep clothing.

    Republicans have gone ‘ban’ crazy

Republicans want to ban abortion, ban books, ban immigration, ban LGBTQ people, ban equity, diversity, and inclusion, ban legalization of marijuana, and ban voting districts by redistricting. Whew! Maybe we should rename them the “ReBANican Party.”

Escambia and Santa Rosa infrastructure is poorly managed

I moved to Gulf Breeze two years ago. U.S. 90 reconstruction through Gulf Breeze was wide open, everything was a mess, dug out, disorganized and no one worked during the week. Two years later nothing has changed. The same mess and almost no progress. I lost two windshields on my car and two on my truck due to stones from the road.

This is unbelievable, and totally unacceptable. They should have brought a company from China to complete that reconstruction in two weeks.

Next are boat ramps. There is simply no capacity, all boat ramps are full at 6 a.m., and you can’t find parking for a truck and trailer. Yet, the best boat ramp under the new bridge on the Gulf Breeze side has been closed for last the last three to four years. Unbelievable and totally unacceptable.

The Pensacola area needs a new large boat ramp at the Fort Pickens location, and another one at the Pensacola dog beach location on the ocean side, and one in Navarre. That closed outlet in Navarre should be reopened.

Oh yes, I see the environmentalists are already fuming over a couple of birds that have nests there.

As is, every boat must make a 10+10 mile run from existing boat ramps to open sea. Just calculate the environmental impact. Say 500 boat trips times two gallons of fuel per mile times 20 miles equals 5,000 gallons of fuel saved per week or say month. This would compensate for these birds.

All in all, it appears to me that Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, Navarre are pretty bad managed towns. No need to mention that fiasco with the new bridge damage during hurricane two years ago.

The beach needs more accessibility structuring

Escambia commissioners are not doing their job. After many years of waiting for the beach to become accessible to the disabled population, we find that the beach mats for access are not accessible any longer.

They are not maintained in a proper fashion. There are lumps under the mats that are sometimes four and five inches high at the end of each mat. My power wheelchair cannot get over them and I get stuck. I’ve watched able-bodied people who use them the most get stuck and their cooler get spilled out.

What they did is put more of the brown three-inch patches in and they made it worse. It has to be rolled with something heavy and then the mats be put down again. Too much work guys? We finally get to go to beach, and can't go out to see the dolphins, smell the sea air, feel the breeze and get some sun or see a sunset.

Shame on beach management, shame on the commissioners for not being obviously aware. Ghio would be as disappointed as I am.

    Authoritarian government hopes are misguided

There are distressing reports of conservative business leaders around the country who seem to be indifferent as to the survival of our representative democracy. They feel that an authoritarian government will be better for business, with fewer regulations and demands compared to those existing now.

My question is: if the protections of our Constitution are erased, who will protect these business leaders when a dictator of a different political persuasion takes office? A lot of people initially supported Adolph Hitler, convincing themselves that he could be controlled by benign subordinates. They were wrong. Had he won World War II, his regime necessarily would have changed upon his death – whether for better or worse can never be known.

The rules of our Constitution may be complex and irritating, but they guarantee that whoever heads our government must perform according to a set of reliable expectations that cannot be ignored by a new party or a new attitude.
