ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. ( WKRG ) — Cody, a 7-year-old dog, has survived two gunshot wounds to the neck and right ear after an attack in Pensacola, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

51-year-old Timothy Joseph Kramer was arrested in connection with the shooting death of 47-year-old Rosa Maria Kramer and the shooting of Cody on July 23.

One of the gunshots he’s accused of firing ricocheted back into one of Cody’s paws, leaving large wound marks.

Veronica Schiesske, daughter of the late Rosa Kramer, said she had trouble locating the dog and was told by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office that Cody would most likely need to be euthanized.

“They wouldn’t even give me any updates,” said Schiesske.

After Cody was found in the Hillcrest Avenue home with his injuries, he was taken to Escambia County Animal Services before the family was able to locate him.

Schiesske and her husband then took Cody to Safe Harbor Animal Hospital for medications and a further check-up.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said Timothy Kramer’s charges will remain the same despite the change of events. (Authorities previously told media outlets that Cody died.)

The family said Cody is in great health, and they’ve observed no lingering traumatic reactions to the event.
