Police have revealed the despicable steps that accused wife-killer Timothy Kramer took before he opened fire on his estranged wife, killing her and injuring their family dog.

Florida man Kramer, 51, is being charged with the fatal shooting of his estranged wife Rosa, 47, as well as animal cruelty after it turned out he set a calculated trap at their Pensacola home .

The couple became estranged just two weeks before the grim murder, with Kramer offering Rosa space to come to their home and pick up her things. But it turned out Kramer had a plan.

Police believe Kramer parked his pick-up truck out of sight in the backyard before opening fire when Rosa arrived, according to the Pensacola News Journal.

The Escambia County Sheriff's Office stated in a police report: "It is reasonable to believe that Timothy Kramer attempted to conceal his vehicle behind the privacy fence in an effort to avoid Rosa Kramer from knowing he was present at the residence."

Once inside, Kramer allegedly shot Rosa in the head and injured their seven-year-old dog Cody, who survived after being rushed to a veterinary hospital. The police report detailed a significant amount of blood in the bedroom and smeared blood leading from the bedroom to the hallway.

The couple had separated just two weeks prior to the incident on Tuesday. Rosa's body was discovered by deputies after she couldn't be reached by phone.

Kramer was apprehended by Milton police in Santa Rosa County, accompanied by an unidentified woman. The woman informed the police that Kramer claimed to have shot his wife in self-defense. Text messages from Kramer to the unidentified woman said: "It is all good I did this it is on me."

Timothy Kramer allegedly told the woman he had contacted the Escambia County Sheriff's Office and claimed they had concluded their investigation, deeming the shooting as self-defense.

However, the ECSO's investigation revealed that Kramer "provided a fictitious story," which made her believe he was not in any trouble regarding the incident. Upon obtaining a search warrant for the home, ECSO deputies discovered Rosa Kramer dead from a gunshot wound to the head in a back bedroom.

"In the bedroom, I noticed a significant amount of blood on the flooring and surrounding areas, along with smeared blood and what appeared to be bloody footprints leading from the bedroom to the hallway," the report detailed.

The Office of the State Attorney charged Timothy Kramer with first-degree premeditated murder and aggravated animal cruelty.

Under Florida law, a first-degree murder charge is a capital felony, which mandates a judge to impose a mandatory minimum sentence of life in prison if the defendant is convicted.

Unfortunately, at least three women are killed per day in domestic violence situations, according to Sanctuary for Families .
