East Nine Mile Road could get a new hub for restaurants, retail

Nine Mile Road is the destination for a proposed development project that seeks to build a new 7,500-square-foot building across the street from Saint Luke United Methodist Church.

Developers plan for the "9 Mile Commons" building to have two restaurants and two retail spaces, according to the project’s site plan filed with Escambia County. The restaurants are proposed to be 2,000 square feet, while the retail spaces will be 1,750 square feet.

An access road onto East Nine Mile Road and a parking lot with 58 spaces are proposed as part of the project, but potential inhabitants of the building are not available yet.

If these plans are approved, the project will be developed on a 1.55-acre site on East Nine Mile Road that’s in between Waterside Chiropractic and PenAir Credit Union.

The developers behind the proposal, Bloomfield Investment, already own the two parcels of land that make up the project’s site.

Plans to develop this plot of land stretch back more than a decade, as the project’s applicant − Gary Bishop − proposed a project in 2013 that sought to create a 7,800-square-foot retail space with plans for a fast-food space as well.
