Pensacola's first Wayback Burgers location opens inside Cordova Mall

Pensacola’s first-ever Wayback Burgers celebrated its soft opening this week inside of the Cordova Mall food court. The fast-casual kiosk is located in the former 3D Eats spot, which has since moved out of the mall and expanded.

Wayback Burgers is a Connecticut-based fast-casual franchise specializing in made-to-order burgers and hand-dipped milkshakes. Wayback has over 170 locations nationally and internationally. The company’s philosophy is to take you back to a “simpler place and time,” according to a statement released by the company.

Wayback Pensacola franchisee Hank Gainer also has two other Florida locations in Lynn Haven and Panama City. The Cordova Mall location marks the 10th Wayback Burgers location in Florida.

“One thing I would like to do is bring a really tasty fast casual burger to the Pensacola area,” Gainer wrote to the News Journal in a statement Wednesday. “I think the community will really love it.”

A menu fan-favorite is the “Cheeeesy," a decadent burger made with four slices of melted American cheese and two beef patties made-to-order, sandwiched between an inverted, grilled and buttered bun.

Burgers aren’t all there is to offer, as the menu offers a wide range of salads, sandwiches and chicken tenders, including their spin on a Philly cheesesteak, hand-breaded buffalo chicken tenders and a crisp Caesar salad.

The focus on real ingredients is intended to give customers a feeling of nostalgia for traditional American diners. As the company’s website phrases it: “The good ol’ days are here.”

“Everything is made fresh, never frozen. The shakes are made with real ice cream milk,” Gainer said. “That’s why we have the name, ‘Wayback Burgers.’”

Pensacola’s Wayback Burgers is located at 5100 N. Ninth Ave. and is open from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
