Pensacola police have a suspect in custody following fatal shooting near downtown

The Pensacola Police Department arrested a 45-year-old man Friday morning for a fatal shooting that occurred just outside of downtown.

Officers arrested Nathaniel Thomas on charges of murder, attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and firing a missile into an occupied vehicle.

Officers responded to a shooting near 11th Avenue and Baars Street at 2:44 a.m. When they arrived, they found two victims with gunshot wounds. The victims have now been identified as 42-year-old Kewhan Landrum and 28-year-old Tyreka Wearing.

Both were transported to a local hospital. Landrum died from his injuries, but Wearing was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

PPD says a motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
