Tickets to watch the Florida State University and Auburn University baseball teams faceoff at Blue Wahoos Stadium are sold out, but non-ticketholders can still be part of the fun.

There will be a free tailgate and fan fest event outside the stadium with football on TV, drinks, food, games and swag, according to the Wahoos. All fans are welcome, even those without tickets.

Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves, an FSU grad who championed efforts to bring his alma mater's baseball team to Pensacola , touted the event at a regular press conference at City Hall on Tuesday.

"I'm very excited about the FSU-Auburn baseball game," Reeves said. "(It's) a long time coming, something that I worked on with FSU – 'Why don't we have them play at this beautiful stadium of ours?' – and so it's taken probably well over a year of conversations, and so now it's finally here."

The fall college baseball showcase between the Florida State Seminoles and Auburn Tigers is an exhibition doubleheader that begins at noon, with two seven inning games and a short break between.

The parking lot at Wahoos Stadium opens up at 9 a.m. and will offer lots to do.

"They're going to have a tailgating set up there with a big screen, and that's all free," Reeves said. "So if you want to just be down there in the atmosphere, you can do that."

There will also be a flyover by Training Air Wing Five out of Naval Air Station Whiting, and Reeves said the air crews that will be flying the two planes have ties to FSU and Auburn.

“We want to make this a big-time college event, not just a baseball game,” Blue Wahoos team president Jonathan Griffith said when tickets went on sale in August.
