Body pulled from Illinois River identified as Bloomington teen
PEORIA — The Peoria County Coroner's office has identified a 14-year-old boy whose body was found Saturday in the Illinois River in Bartonville. A statement posted to Facebook by the coroner's office said they identified him him as Leron Griffin, who is from Bloomington. The coroner's post said Griffin had been in the water for up to two days, and his body showed no evidence of injury or perpetrated trauma.

Peoria County, IL – A body was found in the Illinois River on Saturday, July 6th, 2024, prompting a multi-agency investigation. The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at approximately 9:32 a.m. after a fisherman discovered the body behind Liberty Steel at 7000 S. Adam St., Bartonville. The body was located approximately 300 yards southwest of the Shade-Lohmann Bridge near the Peoria Lock and Dam, caught on the dam.

BARTONVILLE, Ill. – The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office and the Peoria County Coroner’s Office are investigating the discovery of a body found in the Illinois River. Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins says a fisherman found the body around 9:32 a.m. Saturday near the 7000 block of S. Adam Street in Bartonville about 300 yards from the Shade-Lohmann Bridge near the Peoria Lock and Dam. The body was on the Peoria County side of the river and was caught on the dam.
