    PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) – Auggie Lohnes cracked a two-run homer as part of a seven-run fifth inning as East Peoria rallies past IVC, 9-5, in a season opening baseball game for both schools at EastSide Centre on Tuesday.

    The Grey Ghosts held a 5-0 lead heading into the fifth. Lohnes’ homer broke a 5-5 tie.

    Other high school baseball winners included Metamora, Eureka and Bloomington Central Catholic.

    Host Metamora edged Pontiac 2-1 in a softball showdown of top five teams in class 3A. The Redbirds, ranked No. 3 in the preseason poll, scored two runs in the fourth inning to slide past the fifth-ranked Indians.

    Other softball winners included Pekin, Limestone and Brimfield.

    Normal West won the Big Conference boys indoor track and field meet at Shirk Center. Normal Community took second.

    Chatham Glenwood beat visiting U-High, 4-1, in a season opening soccer showdown between defending state champs. The Titans were the class 2A champs in 2023, U-High won the 1A title.
