    Good morning, foodie friends,

If you are planning to watch the Red, White and Boom fireworks show in Peoria, check out this article by reporter JJ Bullock. It discusses chances of rain, as well as the plan for rescheduling if necessary.

For today, let’s dig into some recent openings and closings in Peoria.

Popular chicken restaurant opens Peoria location

Pop-Up Chicken Shop opened the doors to its Peoria location on June 25. The restaurant – which began in Bloomington in 2018 – is known for its Illinois Hot Chicken.

“I’ve got people on Facebook saying word for word, ‘I’ve never been more excited for a restaurant to open,’” owner Aaron Francis said ahead of the opening, “which, I mean, it’s a huge blessing.”

The newest location also features The Love Shack, which includes burgers, shakes and more on its menu.

Peoria Heights restaurant closed, with property listed for sale

After less than two years in business, Good Tequilas in Peoria Heights has closed its doors. A sign outside of the restaurant has the words “for sale” written across the top in bright red letters.

The building, which is situated at 4319 N. Prospect Road, is listed for $600,000 on Crexi. The property can be sold “with or without the current business,” according to the listing.

Good Tequilas continues to operate at 5025 W. American Prairie Drive, Peoria.

This Downtown Peoria restaurant closed nearly one year after reviving Peoria staple

Richard’s Under Main closed after a final day on June 29.

The Downtown Peoria business aimed to revive Richard’s on Main when it opened last year. The original restaurant – which was also located at 311 Main St. – closed in 2018.

“We have had coolers break, flooding, loss of business and we just can't dig out of the (hole) we are in,” the business wrote in a June 25 post. “Our liquor license expires on Sunday and we will once again become a memory of downtown (Peoria).”
