International children's swimming school to open newest location in Peoria

Aqua-Tots Swim School is bringing its world-renowned programs to the greater Peoria area.

The swim school franchise announced last week it will open a location at 7713 Orange Prairie Road in Peoria near The Shoppes at Grand Prairie. The school has more than 150 locations worldwide, including three in Illinois: Peoria, Wheaton and Orland Park.

In Peoria, the 7,500 square-foot facility is expected to open in August and will offer year-round, indoor swim lessons for children. It will feature a 56-foot-long pool in the center of the facility, floor-to-ceiling glass viewing space on three sides of the pool, a large lobby and 14 swim zones.

“Growing up here, I know that many of our town’s families like to spend time in pools, lakes and on the river,” said franchise co-owner Alison Unkovic. “With four little ones of our own, we know firsthand that swim lessons are essential for children’s safety around water. At Aqua-Tots, we teach students how to respect boundaries, develop lifesaving skills and gain a lifelong love for swimming.”

Founded in 1991, Aqua-Tots has developed a curriculum used in 14 countries to create safe, confident swimmers for life. Aqua-Tots' eight levels of swim classes are designed to help children practice and improve motor skills as they develop them.
