PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Peoria City defeated the Des Moines Menace in a high scoring and physical match, the biggest in the team’s young history.

The Carp would open the scoring after a nice pass from Jose Gomez. Justin Wilson put it in and Peoria City was up 1-0 after it trickled into the net.

Then, Luke Persenico dribbled past the defender, set up Bradley player DJ Koulai who buried it. Peoria City led 2-1 at halftime.

In the 60th minute, there was a penalty for the Carp and Persenico took and made it.

That would put Peoria City up 3-1. Des Moines would claw back to make it a 3-3 game at the end of normal time.

Persenico scored to make it 4-3, but Des Moines scored twice to make it a 5-4 game. With seconds to spare, Fritz Volmar scored to tie it up. It would finish 5-5 in extra time. Peoria City won 4-2 in the penalty shootout.

Goalkeeper Samy Slimi was declared Man of the Match for his performance.

Their next game is Friday in the Central Conference Final.
