The Peoria City Council voted 5-3 on Tuesday to reject a liquor license application for Empire Lounge. Emotions during the discussion ran high at times, with an employee of the business leaving and slamming the door as councilmember Denise Jackson explained her opposition.
The opposition centered around a lack of trust and transparency with the community and city. While Mayor Rita Ali voted in favor of the license, she said there had been “big mistakes” made by the establishment. She said if a license were to be granted, she “wouldn’t hesitate” to revoke it if additional infractions occurred.
