Peoria Christian track and field athlete Trae Brickner is a national champion.

The rising junior at Peoria Christian won the Boys 15-16 decathlon on Sunday at the 2024 AAU Junior Olympic Games at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, N.C. He took fourth in this event last summer.

Brickner, from Dunlap, topped a 30-athlete field that competed in 10 events over two days: 100-meter dash, 110 hurdles, 400 dash, 1500 run, discus, shot put, pole vault, javelin, long jump and high jump. He won two events and finished top-four in five others.

For PCS last season, Brickner finished among the top high school hurdlers in the Peoria area, with the third-best time in the 110 hurdles and fourth-best in the 300s. He advanced to the Illinois High School Association Class 1A state finals in both hurdles races and the pole vault.

Last fall, Brickner also helped the PCS boys soccer team to the IHSA state finals.
