One thing that stands out about this year's group is that they come from all walks of life. Freshman Cooper Koch is an Iowa legacy. Chris Tadjo was born in Canada and played for NBA Academy in Mexico City. Seydou Traore is a New York native while Drew Thelwell was born in Florida and played basketball in Kentucky.

As of 11:00 p.m., about 40,000 MidAmerican customers are currently without electric service due to tonight’s severe storm outbreak, including more than 31,000 in the Quad Cities metro area, just under 8,500 in the Des Moines metro area and about 90 in the Iowa City area.

Magalhaes brings innovation, science to Iowa Pork Industry Center
Some people love to work with numbers and data, and some people love to work with people. Edison Magalhaes counts both among his skills and looks forward to sharing his excitement with colleagues and pork producers in Iowa. As the first-ever innovative swine systems faculty member in Iowa State University's animal science department, he began the position July 1 and is housed in the Iowa Pork Industry Center there. Already he's working to develop a program that will capitalize on his strengths and the needs of people in the industry.
