KMAQ sold to Iowa-based Coloff Media
For the first time in 66 years, KMAQ will be under different ownership. Jim Coloff of Coloff Media has purchased the Maquoketa-based station from Dennis Voy and announced plans to continue operating the station. BELLE PLAINE, Iowa (KCRG) - Inside Drahos Shoe Store, on Main Street in Belle Plaine, lives generations of knowledge. “My grandfather was a Shoemaker in Bohemia. In 1904, he immigrated to the US. He was 17 years old. He had $22.60 in his pocket,” says Dan Drahos, the current owner and operator of Drahos Shoe Store. Don’s grandfather used those talents to start up a shoe repair business in Belle Plaine during the Great Depression, and eventually passed the business along to his son.

Man Sentenced To Life in Prison For Killing Dubuque Woman
A man was sentenced to life in prison without parole Monday for killing a Dubuque woman in 2021. 25 year old Romell Enoch received the mandatory sentence during a hearing in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after previously being found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of 20 year old Kylie Duster of Dubuque. A jury reached its guilty verdict on May 6 after four hours of deliberation following three days of testimony. Police found Duster dead in her Dubuque home on July 28, 2021, after she had not been seen for multiple days. She was found in her bedroom closet with a piece of white fabric in her mouth and injuries to her face and neck.

Gov. Reynolds announces FEMA’s approval of Disaster Recovery Temporary Housing Program, opens applications
(Des Moines) Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has announced that the state’s Disaster Recovery Temporary Housing Program is now open for applications following approval from FEMA. The program aims to provide temporary housing, including recreational vehicles and travel trailers, for up to six months at no cost to Iowans whose homes were severely damaged, destroyed, or deemed uninhabitable in counties under a federal disaster declaration. As of now, the eligible counties are Adair, Adams, Buena Vista, Cedar, Clay, Emmet, Jasper, Lyon, Montgomery, Obrien, Plymouth, Polk, Sioux, and Story. Additional counties may become eligible as the recovery process and damage assessments continue.
