Four Rainbow Wahine Sailors Earn Academic Accolades
The Intercollegiate Sailing Association announced its All-Academic Team for 2023-24 with four members of the University of Hawaii sailing team gaining distinction. Vivian Bonsager, Malia Johnson, Anna Kalabukhova and Mercy Tangredi were among the 290 sailors selected nationally for their accomplishments both on the water and in the classroom. The ICSA All-Academic Sailing Team recognizes juniors and seniors who participated in seven regattas during the season and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Bail Maintained for Driver Involved in Fatal Kona Pedestrian Collision
34 year-old Garrett Duran of Kona was charged in relation to a single-vehicle traffic collision that took the life of a pedestrian. Yesterday, Duran made his initial Kona District Court appearance where his bail was maintained at $106,000.00 and he was ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on July 26.

HONOLULU — Described as “the most beautiful ship in the world,” the Italian Navy’s most senior vessel, Amerigo Vespucci, will dock at Pier 9 at Honolulu Harbor for four days and the Italian Navy invites the public for free tours, July 25-28. The nearly 100-year-old sailing ship is currently on its second circumnavigation of the globe that began in 2023 and will continue through 2025. With 93 years of service under its belt, the ship will be at sea for 20 months and visit 36 ports in 32 countries.
