PERDIDO KEY, Fla. (WKRG) — Escambia County Commissioner, Josh Bergosh, announced the newest amenity for the county: a multi-use path for pedestrians.

Perdido Key’s newest multi-use path is the latest of a string of projects the county has held a ribbon cutting for.

“It’s going to add connectivity to this part of District One that we’ve never had before,” said Bergosh.

The multi-use path is designed for pedestrians and bikers, spanning around 4.26 miles and running from River Road to the western boundary of Perdido Key State Park.

The goal of the path is simple: provide an alternative to community members other than motorized vehicles.

The new path has been in the works since 2017, costing roughly $5.4 million over the last years. Brett Moylan of Shavers Construction said the project wouldn’t have been possible without his team.

“And when you put a good team together, you get the product that we came up with so we’re grateful for Escambia County for giving us the opportunity to do this project, and like I said, we had a good team,” said Moylan.

Tammy Thurow, President of Perdido Key Area Chamber of Commerce said as construction has progressed, community members have used the path as much as possible.

“It’s actually been a lot of fun watching this sidewalk be built,” Thurow said. “The next week, there’d be another section and people would go up that far, but I mean truly, if you build it, they will come and they have; it’s used.”
