Several cities announce changes to garbage pick-up due to holiday
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Due to the Independence Day holiday, several area cities have announced changes for residents whose normal garbage collection day is on Thursday. In Mobile, trash and garbage pickup will not run on Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. The makeup day for garbage is Saturday, July 6. There is no makeup day for trash.

Law enforcement officers have charged a correctional security guard with third-degree promoting prison contraband, according to a news release. The Alabama Department of Corrections Law Enforcement Services Division arrested Shaquasia Craig on Wednesday. Officers transported him to Escambia County Jail. Where can I set off fireworks in Alabama?
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — What kind of fireworks you can set off in Alabama depends on where you are. Most cities ban fireworks, although some, like Huntsville, allow some non-explosive, non-aeriel devices. In Florence, an individual may detonate fireworks within the city limits on July 4th between the hours of 10:00 a.m. through 11:00 p.m. of the same day. Rules are different on other days. Ardmore AL allows fireworks, Athens does not. Madison's rules are essentially the same as Huntsville's; Nonexplosive, nonaerial sparkling devices, both ground-based and handled, are legal.
