A Beautiful Weekend is on the Way, with Plenty of Sunshine Saturday & Sunday
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Good evening everyone and happy Friday. We’ve seen a wonderful day across the county today featuring plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures. Highs this afternoon were able to reach the lower 80s, with a few fair weather clouds developing during the afternoon hours. We’ll see more sunshine heading out the door tomorrow, with cloud cover and showers approaching late in the day. This will be thanks to a cold front that’s expected to push through, leaving us with even drier air working into the region for the second half of the weekend into next week.

Ron Huber rifled through a thick folder full of decades of state environmental records outside a community hall in the tiny coastal Maine town of Searsport. For the longtime local conservation activist, the scene inside was a familiar one: Dozens of neighbors, workers, and environmentalists mingled over pizza and coffee, discussing the merits of a proposed industrial project that has potential to transform the local economy, but at the expense of a locally beloved natural area.

Moose to be protected for four more years — Perusal of the laws passed by the previous Legislature disclosed that moose were still protected in Maine and continue to be for four years longer. Had not the farmers of the new moose laws passed by the 82nd Legislature attached an emergency clause to it, a temporary slaughter of moose in the Maine woods would have been possible between Tuesday and Saturday of the second week of July, 1925. The old law limited the time of protection on moose to July 7, 1925. Laws passed by the Legislature did not become effective for 90 days after the adjournment of that body, unless they had an emergency clause attached. The emergency provision made the law effective when approved. The new law, which extended the close time on moose for four years, was approved March 28.
