OTC celebrates 2024 graduates
Ogeechee Technical College held its annual commencement ceremony at 7:00pm on May 9 in Hanner Fieldhouse on the campus of Georgia Southern University in front of over 3,000 guests. 330 students were honored in front of an energy-filled audience of faculty, staff, family members, friends, and local dignitaries. Students who have earned their associates degrees, diplomas, technical certificates of credit, and Georgia High School Equivalency diplomas were all recognized and celebrated throughout the evening’s ceremony. Aiken County coroner: Jamilla Smith suffered 'gunshot wounds to the head'
The Aiken County Coroner's Office on Tuesday released the cause of death in the murder investigation of 30-year-old Jackson woman Jamilla "Millie" Shanae Smith. An autopsy Monday in Newberry, South Carolina determined Smith's cause of death was "gunshot wounds to the head," according to a news release from the coroner's office.

Waynesboro child-care worker arrested on cruelty charge
WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A Burke County child-care worker has become the latest to be charged of cruelty to children over the treatment of a youngster in her care. OTC students studying abroad in Germany
Three Ogeechee Technical College students are currently in Germany for three weeks, April 27 – May 18, 2024 as part of an exchange program with Leopold-Hoesch Berufskolleg, a vocational college in Dortmund. Daniel Maulden and Bryce Costlow, Automotive Technology students, and Jacob Flannery, a Manufacturing Engineering Technology student, will gain valuable experience studying and shadowing in industries in the Dortmund community. SCREVEN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A man is dead after being shot by his mother in Screven County. The Screven County Sheriff’s Office says a mother shot her son during a physical altercation. It happened around 12:55 p.m. on Saturday on South Fork Road, a few miles outside of Sylvania.
