Duke Softball Welcomes Lisa Maulden as Director of Player Development
Duke softball has hired Lisa Maulden as the new director of player development for the 2024-25 season. Head coach Marissa Young expressed excitement about Maulden’s extensive international experience and her role overseeing catchers while contributing to data analysis and game planning. Maulden, a former professional player with accolades in Japan, previously served as an assistant coach at Seattle University. She looks forward to fostering the growth of the program's student-athletes with her passion for the game.

Watch List season has begun in college football, and another offensive star is on award watch. On Friday, Oklahoma Sooners running back Gavin Sawchuk was named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list. The Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the player who best combines community service with academic and on-field success. Sawchuk, who took over midseason for the Oklahoma Sooners, closed 2023 with five straight 100-yard games. On the season, he carried the ball 120 times for 744 yards and nine touchdowns. He also caught 14 passes for 94 yards. One college football analyst says Sooners will be lucky to win half their games in 2024
Two seasons ago, in Brent Venables maiden season as head ball coach at Oklahoma, the Sooners won as few as six games for the first time in nearly a quarter century. The 2022 Oklahoma team was not a very good team with not a lot of depth at key positions. The Sooners lost 49-0 that season to Texas. The 2024 Sooner team, however, which begins play in the big bad SEC this season, is much improved over the 2022 OU squad. Yet at least one college football analyst believes this year's team will be lucky to win as many as half of its 12 regular season games.
