A recently graduated Perquimans County High School senior is this year’s recipient of the $1,000 Jeanne C. White Scholarship.

Haley Mathews was recently named the recipient of the scholarship provided each year by the Jeanne Chappell White Educational Endowment.

The endowment was established by White and her family prior to her death in 2015. According to the Perquimans County Schools Foundation, White was well known for her community service throughout the county and state and was the first woman elected to county office in Perquimans.

Mathews graduated as a dual enrolled honor student at both Perquimans High and College of The Albemarle in May. She was a member of BETA, FFA and served in numerous capacities as a volunteer in the community, at Camp Cale and with her local church.

Mathews plans to attend Martin Community College to pursue a degree in cosmetology. She also received a $1,000 School Foundation Scholarship.
