ATLANTA — A career and technical student from Perry County was recognized at the 2024 SkillsUSA Championships, held in Atlanta, on June 26-27. State AG pursues legal action against alleged ‘storm chaser’

Fourth of July festivities
On Thursday, July 4, the villages of New Lexington and Thornville will be holding their Independence Day celebrations. In New Lex, the parade will start at 1 p.m., will march through Main Street and end up at Arethusa Springs Park, where there will be activities hosted by the Fourth of July Committee. Fireworks will start at 10 p.m. In Thornville, the parade will begin at noon, followed by activities at Jake Shaner Park, and fireworks at 10 p.m. Somerset will hold its celebration on Saturday, July 6, with a parade kicking off at 11 a.m., followed by activities at Somerset Memorial Park, and fireworks at 9:45 p.m. On Sunday, July 7 there will be a celebration in Junction City. New area non-profit connects veterans with the healing power of nature

Court receives subsidy grants from Department of Youth Services
NEW LEXINGTON — Perry County Probate/Juvenile Judge Luann Cooperrider has announced that her court has received additional funds from the Ohio Department of Youth Services. Judge Cooperrider has received an additional amount of $30,372.71 for a total of $309,986.26 paid to the Perry County Juvenile Court. The money is used to provide programs for youth and families in Perry County such as the Alpha School, counseling, U-Turn, Horse Power, drug and alcohol prevention programs and many other programs, all grant funded. Judge Cooperrider has received the funding each year as the department continues to support successful programs.

NEW LEXINGTON — At the June 26 Perry County Board of Commissioners’ meeting, commissioners Dan Kinsel and Ben Carpenter addressed a handful of issues and opened bids for the purchase of materials for three county roads. Main St., New Lexington, Ohio, since being established in 1871, has witnessed several changes in ownership - but, one thing that has always remained is the dedication of reporting fair and honest local news. The Perry County Tribune originally started in an office over Thomas Drake’s store on East Main Street in Somerset, and was then known as the Somerset Tribune. In 1873 the paper was moved to the county seat, renamed the New Lexington Tribune, and then later became the Perry County Tribune. The Perry County Tribune website, www.perrytribune.com, was launched September 2008. The Tribune was purchased by Adams Publishing Group in Minneapolis, MN in March 2014. The Perry County Tribune is available through the U.S. Postal Service as well as newsstands, local retail businesses and at the office, which is located at 108 South Main St. in New Lexington, Ohio.
