Local student at Baldwin Wallace garners Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference accolade
BEREA, Ohio — Jensen Wolfe (Somerset/Sheridan High School) is one of 80 Baldwin Wallace University spring sports student-athletes to be named to the 2024 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference Team. In order to be selected as Academic All-OAC, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA. A student-athlete may only receive Academic All-OAC on three occasions. The 80 student-athletes include 12 from baseball, four from men’s golf, 12 from men’s lacrosse, six from men’s tennis, 11 from men’s track and field, eight from softball, three from women’s golf, four from women’s lacrosse, four from women’s tennis and 16 from women’s track and field. Of the 80 selections, 11 are three-time Academic All-OAC student-athletes, 29 are repeat selections, 40 garner their first selection and nine have a perfect 4.00 grade point average.

Two Crooksville students earn academic honors at Cedarville University
CEDARVILLE, Ohio — Cedarville University has announced the names of students who have been named to the Dean’s List and Dean’s Honor List for the Spring 2024 semester. Dean’s List recognition requires the student to obtain a 3.50 GPA or higher for the semester and carry a minimum of 12 credit hours. Dean’s Honor List recognition requires the student to obtain a 3.75 GPA or higher for the semester and carry a minimum of 12 credit hours. Students on the Dean’s List include Isabella Heigley of Crooksville. Students on the Dean’s Honor List include Madeline Heigley of Crooksville.

Governor awards more than $2 million in grants for public drinking water systems
COLUMBUS — On May 16, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and the Ohio EPA announced $2.2 million in H2Ohio grants for more than 250 communities in 78 counties, to help pay for equipment needed to maintain public drinking water distribution systems. Lancaster man dies in Fairfield County single-vehicle crash
LANCASTER — On Tuesday, May 14, at approximately 3:10 a.m., the Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol received a call of a single vehicle, injury crash that occurred on state Route 37 near state Route 204. A 2013 GMC Terrain, operated by Mr. Derrick Davis, 32, of Lancaster, was traveling north on state Route 37 near state Route 204 and went off the right side of the road. The vehicle struck a ditch and an embankment, then rolled over. Mr. Davis was not wearing his safety belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation. Other agencies on site included Walnut Township Fire/EMS, Ohio Department of Transportation, Fairfield County Coroner’s Office, and Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.

Former nursing home employee claims she was fired for reporting understaffing
A former employee of an area nursing home is alleging that her employer violated Ohio’s whistleblower protection law, by firing her for raising concerns about nurse understaffing and resident safety. Chastidy Hanlon is suing the Dublin-based Continuing Healthcare Solutions, Inc., in Athens County Common Pleas Court.
