Leading up to Sunday’s Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony for Perrysburg native Jim Leyland, we’re counting down our five favorite Leyland moments.

No. 5: Perrysburg baseball field dedication

As much as Perrysburg loves Leyland, the feeling has always been mutual.

The 1962 Perrysburg grad never forgot his roots.

In 2012, he returned for the dedication of Jim Leyland Family Field, the baseball complex at the new high school. Leyland donated $100,000 for the project.

“I’m thrilled that we can give something back,” he said at the time. “We’re not looking for publicity. It’s just nice to help. This is about the kids having a nice place to play, about Coach [Dave] Hall, about Perrysburg schools, and the community.”
