Tensions flare over firefighter negotiations with Toledo
Negotiations between Toledo firefighters and the city have become so tense that the union is threatening to oppose a proposed charter amendment that would allow Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz to run for a third term. City officials walked out of a bargaining session with union representatives on Aug. 15 after the union rejected the city’s wage offer of 9 percent over three years. “They walked away. They want it to go to mediation,” Mr. Tabb said. Emotions have run so high that the union, in an Aug. 16 letter to Local 92 members, have threatened to not support a proposed charter amendment expected on the ballot this fall that would allow the mayor to run for a third term. The current charter limits the mayor to two terms.
