Incumbent Zach Nunn (R) and Lanon Baccam (D) are running in the general election in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District on Nov. 5, 2024. Nunn defeated then-incumbent Cindy Axne (D) in 2022 50.3% to 48.9%. As of the Q2 2024 campaign finance reports, Nunn had raised $3.96 million and Baccam had raised $2.71 million. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is targeting the district. As of Jul. 22, 2024, The Cook Political Report with Amy Walter, Decision Desk HQ and The Hill, and Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball each rated the election Lean Republican and Inside Elections with Nathan Gonzales rated it Tilt Republican.
Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Hit Raccoon Valley Radio Listening Area
Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team became active Wednesday evening. Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Guthrie and Greene Counties at 6:27pm, and Dallas County was added at 7:31pm when Greene and Guthrie Counties were extended to 8:15pm. Around 7:40pm, Stuart began experiencing strong winds that caused minimal tree damage and heavy rains, and at 7:54, southeastern Guthrie County had its severe thunderstorm warning extended to 8:45pm. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams reported 30-40 mph winds in the Cooper area, and 10 mph winds and slight rain in Rippey. At 8pm, torrential rains began in Perry, along with 40+ mph winds.

Lucca finds its ‘sweet spot’
Lucca just turned 20 years old. It has nurtured some of the city’s very best chefs and restaurateurs. Owner Steve Logsdon brought David Baruthio (Baru66 and four other places) here from France when he opened. Derek Eidson (Django and Guesthouse Supper Club) followed him. Logsdon is a James Beard Best Chef Midwest semifinalist himself. His brother, Joe, who makes Lucca’s bread, is a James Beard National Best Pastry Chef semifinalist. Steve began his career in a similar incubator for talent. He worked the kitchen with George Formaro and Chuck Fuller at Mike Lavalle’s City Grille.

NIACOG resurrecting its NICE rideshare program for workers
MASON CITY, Iowa – A rideshare program is returning to North Central Iowa. The North Iowa Area Council of Governments (NIACOG) says an improved version of its North Iowa Commuter Express (NICE) program will team up with Commute with Enterprise, an affiliate of Enterprise-Rent-A-Car, to offer van travel for people who live inside or outside of the counties of Cerro Gordo, Floyd, Franklin, Kossuth, Mitchell, Winnebago and Worth and wish to access jobs in the area.
