Belmont Fugitive Arrested After Attempted River Escape K-9 Unit Stops Alleged Armed Suspect
In Belmont, a man's attempt to fully disappear into the murky waters of the Catawba River came to an abrupt end. The Belmont Police Department reported that Travis Kirby, a 47-year-old man with a list of legal woes including outstanding felony drug warrants and multiple domestic violence protection order violations, was taken into custody. Kirby, known to be armed and dangerous, tried to utilize the river's concealment to evade arrest.
Atherton Police’s newest employee is Emmy the therapy dog
The Atherton Police Department announced in a July 24 news release that the department’s newest employee would be Emmy, a six-month-old goldendoodle therapy dog. Emmy was added to the department as part of an initiative to support community well-being, and the mental health of first responders. The therapy dog program is part of the police department’s partnership with Hearts 4 Heroes, a nonprofit that focuses on serving the mental health needs of first responders.
Palo Alto police search for man who entered apartment while residents were sleeping
Police in Palo Alto are looking for a man who entered an occupied apartment early this weekend, the department said Friday. On Saturday at about 9:50 a.m., police received a call reporting a burglary that occurred overnight at an apartment on the 800 block of University Avenue. A woman in her 30s awoke to find her bathroom window open and items in her bedroom and bathroom disturbed, which she said must have occurred after she went to sleep around midnight.
