Santa Cruz County officers arrest three people in connection to robbery
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CALIF. (KION-TV)- Multiple Santa Cruz County units arrested one adult and two juveniles in connection to a robbery that happened last Friday. On July 26th, Capitola Police responded to robbery at a commercial business near 41st Avenue. According to officials, three suspects stole a large amount of merchandise before fleeing the scene. An employee was also threatened by one suspect, who said he had a firearm and would attack the employee.

Santa Cruz Ballet Theater closing after nearly 50 years
After nearly a half century of training generations in the rarefied art of ballet, the Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre is no more. On Monday, SCBT’s long-time artistic director, Diane Cypher, announced that the local training academy is closing its doors at the end of July. For Santa Cruz County audiences, SCBT was known largely for its full performances of “The Nutcracker” each holiday season at the Santa Cruz Civic. But for young dancers interested in rigorous ballet training, it was a top-flight academy that, in many cases, led to careers in professional ballet.
Tom Stafford retires from Pacifica School District
All educators and staff should be celebrated for the work they do to prepare our children for the future, but today I want to celebrate one in particular upon his retirement. Tom Stafford came to the Pacifica School District in August, 2002, teaching chorus to every 3rd, 4th and 5th-grader in Pacifica - well over 1,000 students every week. Over the past 22 years he has taken on many roles in the district, working in special education, serving as principal of Linda Mar and Cabrillo Schools, band director, coordinator of visual and performing arts, administrator of special projects, and teaching in 3rd grade and 5th grade classrooms.
