PESHTIGO — Members of the Peshtigo Area Chamber of Commerce recently presented a financial literacy and future planning boot camp for graduating seniors at Peshtigo Middle/High School.

Financial planning and financial literacy concepts are taught throughout high school. The Peshtigo Area Chamber of Commerce wanted to highlight many vital real life financial concepts at this time, with a little over a month prior to graduation.

Chamber of Commerce member and Board of Education member Tony O’Neill shared, “I was speaking with Superintendent Patrick Rau about my 17 year-old son who is close to graduating. As a parent, I thought, ‘What else can we do to help these young men and women crossover into adulthood?’”

Many local professionals in the financial, insurance, and real estate industry jumped on board to help with the workshop. Traditionally, the Peshtigo Area Chamber of Commerce has helped organize career expos for students at Peshtigo High School.

This has been the first year the Chamber has helped to teach real life financial tips to seniors. Presentations included topics such as creditworthiness and mortgages, rental processes, credit and car loans, importance of insurance, as well as savings and retirement strategies.

“the planning group of Chamber of Commerce members and school administrators was enthusiastic as the concept came together,” O’Neill said.

Principal Chad Sodini agreed. “I hope to continue this senior financial awareness event into the future to better equip our students.” he said.
