    Peshtigo nabs two State qualifiers at track Sectionals

    COLBY, Wis. — The Marinette and Peshtigo High School track and field teams sent numerous athletes to compete at the WIAA Division 2 Sectional meet in Colby on Thursday, and the Bulldogs recorded two qualifications for the WIAA State Championships in La Crosse, Wis.

    The top-four finishers in each event earned a qualification for the State meet.

    Peshtigo senior Christina Powers reached the finals in the girls shot put and earned a State bid by placing third with a throw of 38-04.00.

    Meanwhile the team of Dathen Sechen, Ethan Brissette, Tristan Krejcarek and Madison Vorpahl took third in the boys 4x100m relay with a time of 43.84 seconds.

    Powers and the Bulldog sprinters will compete with the best in the state May 31 through June 1 at Roger Harring Stadium on the UW-La Crosse campus.

    Caden Genrich turned in Marinette’s best finish.

    The Marine senior advanced to the finals in the boys shot put. An injury caused him to scratch on his final two throws, but a toss of 48-5.50 was still good for sixth place.

    Genrich and fellow senior Frankie Marquardt competed in both throws.

    Marquardt placed 16th in the shot put at 40-10.00. In the discus, Genrich was ninth at 144-06 while Marquardt placed 14th with a personal record of 125-08.

    The Marine boys featured heavily in the relays as they qualified for Sectionals in all four disciplines.

    Kaiden Brown, Braxton Polzin, Mason Floriano and Elijah Wimbush placed ninth in the 4x100m at 45.06 seconds.

    Brown, Polzin, Jackson Draheim and Mason Hofherr placed tenth in the 4x400m at 3:35.87. Hunter Schneider, Nicholas Hruska, Evan Reines and Max Jacobson finished 15th in the 4x800m at 9:15.07.

    Draheim, Polzin, Brown and Hofherr were disqualified in the 4x200m after a bad exchange heading into the final leg.

    Wimbush also competed in the 100m dash, placing 16th at 11.85 seconds, while Hofherr was 12th in the 200m at 23.79 seconds.

    Jackson Draheim, who qualified in the maximum four events, placed ninth in the pole vault at a height of 11’6”, and 13th in the 800m run at 2:10.18.

    The Marine girls got their best finish from Nat Poquette who placed 10th in the discus with a PR of 104.10.

    The 4x800m relay team of Madison Kunick, Anna Marzahl, Lauren Sadowski and Addison Lacy notched their best time of the season at 10:35.28 to place 11th.

    Daisy Mercer, Bailey Krouth, Lauren Sadowski and Keristen Kabacinski finished 14th in the 4x100m relay at 54.70 seconds.

    Krouth was 14th in the open 400m run at 1:06.46, and Marzahl placed 12th in the high jump at 4-06.00.

    Peshtigo’s Alaina Archambault narrowly missed a State qualification in the 100m dash.

    The Bulldog junior advanced to the final with a preliminary time of 13.38 seconds. In the final, she blazed down the track in 13.18 seconds to finish sixth, just 0.26 seconds shy of advancing.

    Archambault also placed 11th in the 300m hurdles at 51.03 seconds.

    Rachel Nelson competed in the 800m (10th, 2:29.81), the 1600m (9th, 5:33.30) and the 4x400m relay, where she teamed with Makai Levknecth, Jaycee Mullins and Serenity Walden to place 13th at 4:25.56.

    Archambault, Mullins, Walden and Kylie Villas placed 12th in the 4x100m relay at 53.82 seconds.

    In the field events, Riley Sabel was 13th in the pole vault at 8-00.00, and Mullins was 13h in the long jump at 14-10.50.

    The Bulldog boys competed in three relays and six individual events.

    In addition to the 4x100m squad, the team of Andrew Halfmann, Malakai Yakel, Keelan Schmidt and Liam Smith finished tenth in the 4x800m at 8:49.74, while Brissette, Krejcarek, Vorpahl and Cody Nesberg placed 15h in the 4x400m at 3:44.32.

    Krejcarek was 12th in the 100m dash at 11.67 seconds. Nesberg finished 13th in the 400m at 53.76 seconds, and Eli Berndt was 15th in the 3200m run at 10:57.74.

    Junior Nathen Kleikamp finished 15th in the 110m hurdles at 18.17 seconds and 12th in the 300m hurdles at 44.27 seconds.

    Vorpahl posted a top-ten finish in the long jump where his leap of 20-02.50 was good for ninth place.
