PETAL, Miss. ( WHLT ) – The City of Petal is reeling over the loss of three teenagers who were killed during a crash.

Forrest County investigators said as Nicholas Warren, 19; Bernard Payton, 19; and Katie Keys, 17; were killed in the crash on Monday. The crash happened at the intersection of River Road and B&B Loop.

The three teens had just graduated from Petal High School on May 17. Leaders with the school said the loss has been difficult for the community.

“All three had their own individual path through Petal High School. But all three were important parts of our day-to-day school. In the classes, in the hallways, and in the cafeteria, they just brought a lot to the school,” said Petal High Principal Tyler Watkins.

“To be where at today, it’s just gut-wrenching. There are no words. You know, these are precious students that mean a lot to our district and mean a lot to our teachers, our staff. And we’re just at a loss of words right now. Moments like this are when the power of presence is so important. And we’re trying to surround these families with love and give them everything that they need as they go through what I would argue is the most difficult thing that they have to go through in their life. So, it’s just heartbreaking,” said Dr. Matt Dillon, superintendent for the Petal School District.

Investigators said two others were critically injured in the crash. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help with the funeral and medical expenses.
