Council appointments delayed until 'later this summer’
Alaskan and West Coast fishery stakeholders are still in the dark as to who will represent them on their regional fishery management councils. The appointments of 22 new and returning members to six of eight of the nation’s councils were announced on June 28 by the US Dept. of Commerce. The Secretary of Commerce appoints council seats from state governors’ lists of nominees. Each serves three-year terms.

Voters in Juneau could get to decide whether Saturdays should be "ship-free." KTOO reports a petition to ban large cruise ships on Saturdays and the Fourth of July now has enough signatures to be on the ballot in October. Supporters of the effort say this would limit the number of cruise ship passengers that visit Juneau each season. The Juneau Assembly has until August 15 to take its own action on the issue.
North Slope residents say Biden administration rule hurts their economy
(The Center Square) - Residents in Alaska's North Slope said in a lawsuit a Biden administration rule that closes off oil and gas development for millions of acres in the National Petroleum Reserve would hurt the area's economy. Orcas teens return from 750-mile boat race to Alaska
After almost eight days of sailing, Orcas Island teens Dagney Kruger and Else Ranker finished the Race to Alaska on June 20.
