    Travis Tritt and the return of flat track motorcycle racing at the 2024 Menard County Fair

    Grammy-winning country singer Travis Tritt and the return of flat track motorcycle racing highlight the Menard County Fair in Petersburg July 16-21.

    For the first time, the Abe Lincoln Quarter Midget Association (ALQMA) makes a stop in Petersburg. The Middletown-based non-profit youth racing organization is for children ages 5-16. Racing is in the Grandstand at 11 a.m. July 21.

    Stalwarts like harness racing (July 17), the Wooten Rodeo (July 18) and the demolition derby (July 21) all return.

    It all takes place at 18450 Fairgrounds St.

    Here are some highlights:

    Travis Tritt

    What: Tritt, a 61-year-old native of Marietta, Georgia, has had five Number One hits on the Hot Country Songs charts: "Help Me Hold On," "Anymore," "Can I Trust You With My Heart," "Foolish Pride," and "Best of Intentions."

    Tritt won Grammy Awards for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals in 1992 for "The Whiskey Ain't Workin'," a duet with Marty Stuart, and in 1998 for "Same Old Train," with Stuart and several other artists.

    Texas-based Pecos and the Rooftops opens the show.

    When: 8 p.m., July 19

    Flat track motorcycle racing

    What: After more than two decades, flat track motorcycle racing returns to the fair, honoring one of its own.

    The inaugural Nick Williams Memorial Race honors the memory of the former Petersburg racer, who died in Springfield in 2022.

    The race is being put on by Rpm Promotions, LLC, out of Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

    When: 6 p.m., July 17

    BBQ Cook-off

    What: Think you can rock the grill?

    The County Market Backyard BBQ Cook-off takes place at the Infield Pavilion on July 20.

    In the same area, the Menard County Farm Bureau is staging a sweet corn eating contest.
