    Summerfield graduate Derek Clark drafted No. 262 by Angels

    Derek Clark had his named called Monday.

    The Summerfield graduate was picked in the ninth round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Los Angeles Angels on Monday.

    He was the 262nd pick overall after making the All-Big 12 team this spring for West Virginia with an 8-3 record, 3.23 earned-run average and 91 strikeouts and 23 walks in 97⅔ innings.

    The left-hander, who was listed at 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds, who compiled a 23-7 record in the previous three seasons at Northwood University.

    YOUTH BASEBALL

    Maybee, Dundee win

    MONROE — Maybee and Dundee won Monday in the 64th annual Monroe County Fair Baseball Tournament to reach the final four of the event.

    Kaedon McCarty rapped out three doubles to lead Dundee to a 14-7 win over Ida Blue. Gavin Goins also had three hits, including a triple, and scored three times.

    Adam VanDaele added a pair of hits.

    Trace Toeppe led Ida Blue with three hits, including a double, and scored twice. Leihm Swartz went 2-for-2 with a double, Brycen Powers had two hits and Grant Letellier doubled.

    Maybee stopped Bedford 14-9.

    Bobby Jones, Franke Lange and Ben Illes finished with three hits each. Lange slammed two doubles and Seth Jaskot doubled and tripled.

    Seager Stark and Jaycee Huges scored three times each for Bedford and Hudson McKibben tripled.

    Maybee and Dundee will play each other at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. That game will be followed by the winners’ bracket finals featuring Monroe National and Ash-Carleton.

    RUNNING

    Wolfe, Russeau win

    PETERSBURG — Alex Russeau of Dundee ran 15:54.2 to finish first overall and Petersburg’s Makenzie Wolfe was the women’s winner in 23:01.5 during the 16th annual Rose Run Saturday.

    Male age-group winners were Gave Buckner of Petersburg (9-under), Alex Tremonti of Monroe (10-14), Isaak Rubley of Monroe (15-19), Wyatt Tipping of Petersburg (20-24), Bryan Cress of Blissfield (25-29), Austin Cress of Saline (30-34), Josh Seegert of Petersburg (35-39), Dave Raymond of Petersburg (40-44), Jason Portala of Toledo (45-49), David Lanier of Canton (50-54), Bob Griffin of Tecumseh (55-59), Tim Pietz of Petersburg (60-64), Gregg Konzen of Toledo (65-69), Ron Carpenter of Hudson (70-75) and Matt Carpenter of Morenci (masters).

    Female champs were Emma Viertlbeck of Petersburg (9-under), Abigail Raymond of Petersburg (10-14), Grace Raymond of Petersburg (15-19), Abby Kohler of Maumee (20-24), Hailey Welch of Petersburg (25-29), Chelsea Baker of Petersburg (30-34), Victoria Ray of Ida (35-39), Megann Tremonti of Monroe (40-44), Michele Pushies of Howell (45-49), Heather Walker (50-54), Cheryl Walter of Toledo (55-59), Laura Antoszewski of Petersburg (60-64), Sandy Brown of Petersburg (65-69), Deb Stevens of Petersburg (70-74) and Kelly Thompson of Petersburg (masters).

    Bezeau, Masserant finish

    NEWPORT – Joel Bezeau and Luke Masserant completed all 11 miles of the Jefferson cross country team’s pledge run from Jefferson to South Rockwood and back Monday.

    Also running were Mia Schroeder, Claire Miller and Kim Miller.

    GOLF

    Title goes to 10-year-old

    MONROE – Newport St. Charles student Harlow Swank, 10, was the overall girls winner during the Youth Tournament at Sandy Creek Golf Club Thursday.

    She also won the 11-under division with a score of 80.

    “She truly is the most impressive youth golfer I have seen play,” said Airport coach Casey McDowell, who ran the event.

    The overall boys winner was Billy Sennett from Woodhaven with a 73.

    Other division winners were Evan Mullins (boys 14-15), Cade Horner (boys 12-13) and Jonah Mitocariu (11-under boys), Sophie Bucki (16-18 girls) and Katie Carlson (girls 14-15).

    The event featured 57 players.

    Third ace for Yeager

    DUNDEE – Larry Yeager of Milan shot the third hole-in-one of his career recently when he used a 3 hybrid to ace the175-yard No. 9 hole at Dundee Golf Club.

    ADULT SOCCER

    Steel nets two

    MONROE – Natalie Steel scored two goals to lead ABCDE FC to a 9-1 rout over Athletico in the Monroe Adult Coed Indoor Soccer League at LevelUp Training Sunday.

    Ryan Murray scored for Athletico.
