Lenox — The BSO’s final weekend at Tanglewood begins with Bruce Liu performing Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 on Friday evening, led by emerging American conductor Ryan Bancroft. On the same program, the BSO will perform Edward Elgar’s “Enigma” Variations, a work that contains some of the most sublime music ever written. On Saturday, it is Beethoven, Brahms, Chausson, and Ravel, closing with the French composer’s sensually ravishing “Daphnis et Chloé,” Suite No. 2 (with chorus). On Sunday, it is Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, which means the Tanglewood Festival Chorus will be present to help several thousand people experience transcendence.

Homeless and at-risk N.Y. veterans will receive $40 million from the Department of Veterans Affairs
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York veterans will be receiving millions of dollars in new aid from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. On Friday, the department announced in a written statement that “it will award $43,955,195 million in grants to help homeless and at-risk New York Veterans — along with an additional $16,756,899 million to benefit veterans from New York and surrounding states.”

New York City man gets 5 years in prison for having cocaine at Amsterdam hotel
A New York City man was sentenced to 5 years in prison after he was arrested earlier this year with cocaine at an Amsterdam hotel. William De La Rosa, 29, had previously admitted in federal court that on Jan. 25 of this year, he drove to the hotel with 1 kilogram of cocaine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He planned to distribute the drug to another person.
