North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) in Manhasset led the way as New York’s No. 1 hospital, tied with three other health systems for the top honor, and recognized as a national Honor Roll Hospital, U.S. News said. NSUH, which recently celebrated its 70th anniversary, ranked in the top 51 nationally in all 10 specialties it serves, including the two top-performing categories in the health system; The hospital’s orthopedics program ranked seventh in the United States while diabetes/endocrine disorders placed 10th.
$100M will pay to ‘decarbonize’ NY Capitol, Empire State Plaza
Albany, N.Y. — The Empire State Plaza and Capitol will receive $100 million in state funding to start the first phase of a plan to decarbonize state buildings. The 98-acre complex in Albany will implement a thermal energy network as the state moves to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to reach climate goals, according to the Office of General Services.

Albany County District Attorney David Soares says he is staying in the race this November after losing June's Democratic primary. Defense Attorney Lee Kindlon beat Soares in a low-turnout Democratic primary after the five-term DA lost the support of county Democrats for using a state grant to give himself a raise. He later returned the money. Soares, a vocal critic of recent public safety reforms passed by the New York State legislature, announced his independent write-in campaign in Albany Wednesday.

State of Emergency declared for Avery Road in Buckland
BUCKLAND, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Buckland select board voted to declare a Local State of Emergency for Avery Road. The road and culverts were comprised by heavy rainfall on July 5th of this year and since then, the road has been closed to thru traffic, impacting 25 homes. Town officials met with a MEMA representative who recommended the state of emergency declaration to access financial opportunities for the repairs.
