    City of Petersburg to host two ribbon-cutting ceremonies, following upgrades to parks

    PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) — The City of Petersburg’s Office of Recreation, Special Events and Volunteerism will host two ribbon-cutting ceremonies on Tuesday to celebrate new upgrades at Farmer Street Park and the Petersburg Sports Complex.

    The first ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at Farmer Street Park, located at 1200 Farmer St., beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16. This ceremony will mark the completion of a renovation project, according to the City of Petersburg.

    Upgrades people can see at Farmer Street Park include the transformation of two basketball courts, a revamped tennis courts, a new pickleball court and other recreational opportunities.

    The second ceremony will take place at the Petersburg Sports Complex, located at 100 Ballpark Rd., starting at 11:15 a.m.

    City officials confirmed that both Phase I and II of the Petersburg Sports Complex are complete, with upgrades that focused mainly on new signage, improved equipment, a new irrigation pump, retaining wall repairs, fresh paint, new walkways, a modern conference room, upgraded restrooms and revitalizing the baseball and softball fields.

    According to the City of Petersburg, the new improvements have placed Petersburg Sports Complex in a position as a preferred sports venue for events that include serving as the home field for Richard Bland College, Petersburg High School, Life Christian Academy baseball teams, as well as over 24 youth softball tournaments.
