FSU football welcomed the Virginia Tech Hokies to Doak Campbell Stadium in October 2023 for the first time since the 2018 season opener, where Willie Taggart made his FSU coaching debut. The latter was an embarrassing loss, and FSU fans remembered that as the Hokies came to town for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. FSU was a 23.5 betting favorite, and FSU made it 22-0 before the first quarter ended. FSU won the game 39-17. It was a sold-out crowd with 79,560 in attendance, and we were waiting to see if Virginia Tech would make it a game. It didn't surprise me when I heard Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones say he thought Doak Campbell Stadium was overhyped on a Shedeur Sander's podcast:
