PETOSKEY — Northern Michigan can help celebrate Pride Month with the 6th annual Flag Party and Pride Walk in Petoskey.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Pennsylvania Park on Sunday, June 30. The walk will start at 7 p.m.

Pride flags of all sizes will be handed out for free to the community prior to the walk. The walk will begin in the park, and then march down Lake Street to the People's Corner of Mitchell and U.S. 31. There, participants will wave their flags and dance in celebration.

Organizers said in a press release that this joyous demonstration honors the freedoms afforded by those who fought before them. It is also a call to action and a reminder that while strides have been made, the fight against oppression and bigotry continues.

“This event is a moment to recognize the progress of our community, the support and love that exists here, and the safety that visibility creates for the LGBTQIA+ community,” said Kristin Jardine, co-founder of the LGBTQ+ Alliance of Petoskey. “While there is always work to be done, this celebration is a powerful reminder of our resilience and unity.”

For more information about the event, contact Jardine at (231) 675-4674 or visit the LGBTQ+ Alliance of Petoskey Facebook page.
