Setting sail: Ugotta Regatta returns to Little Traverse Bay July 26-28

HARBOR SPRINGS — A look out onto Little Traverse Bay this weekend will provide a view of sailboats racing up and down the bay.

From July 26-28, the 63rd annual Ugotta Regatta will take place, hosted by the Little Traverse Yacht Club.

The three-day regatta includes around 800 sailors, with crews supporting around 100 boats, said Debi Schoenherr, regatta director.

On Friday, the One Design Racing category will kick things off around noon. This division has racers going around the bay in one direction.

Saturday and Sunday will feature the Tour of the Bay courses, where boats will be "criss crossing all over the bay," Schoenherr said.

"It's neat to watch because there's a ton of boats all over the bay, going in all different directions," Schoenherr said.

"It's a spectacular view, especially if the weather cooperates," she added. "It's spectacular to watch the crew work, and they're really pretty."

If you're not out on the water, the yacht club recommends spectators view the racing from Petoskey State Park or Petoskey’s Sunset Park.
