EMMET COUNTY — The driver in a fatal hit-and-run accident that killed a jogger in Emmet County on Monday morning has been arrested.

The Michigan State Police had previously asked the public for help in locating the driver after they fled the scene of the accident.

According to the Michigan State Police, the accident occurred at approximately 7:20 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 5 when a 48-year-old woman from Colorado was jogging on the shoulder of southbound U.S. 31 near Luce Road. She was struck by a black 2013-2017 Dodge pickup truck that fled the scene.

Authorities said the truck had front-end damage, and the grill was located at the scene.

In a press release, the Michigan State Police said the vehicle was located by law enforcement at a local business and the driver, a 25-year-old man from Cheboygan, was taken into custody.
