HARBOR SPRINGS — Labor Day will signal more than just the start to the school year in Harbor Springs — it will also be the start of a construction project coming to the city.

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 3, MDOT will be starting a two month project on M-119. The project will be an investment of around $667,746, according to MDOT.

After a rainstorm in 2022, part of the shoulder of M-119 washed away, which also led to the pavement and guardrail supports in the area being undermined. Temporary repairs were made to the roadway, but traffic has remained detoured on Lake Street and State Street as a precaution.

Now, permanent repairs are being made to the washout area. A retaining wall is being built to reinforce the slope beneath M-119 near Harrison Street as well.

The project is expected to last until Oct. 25.

Throughout construction, traffic will be detoured from M-119 to State Street and West Lake Street.
