Harbor Springs named America's Best Small Lake Town by Travel + Leisure magazine

HARBOR SPRINGS — The small-town charm of Harbor Springs has been noticed nationally, with Travel + Leisure naming the city as the Best Small Lake Town in the United States.

The city was celebrated for the beauty, community, history and more that gives the area its small-town charm.

"It is no surprise to see (Harbor Springs) recognized by something like Travel + Leisure for an honor like this," Jim Powell, executive director for the Petoskey Area Visitors Bureau, told the News-Review. "It is a very unique community, it is picture perfect. It's one of those places that falls out of a Hallmark story."

In fact, Harbor Springs has been featured on the Hallmark Channel's Christmas Cam program.

Whether it's the access to Little Traverse Bay or a trip through the Tunnel of Trees, Harbor Springs has a wide variety of activities for visitors and residents alike.

Travel + Leisure highlights some of the most popular attractions, like skiing at nearby resorts or making the drive to Cross Village to visit the Legs Inn.

"Summer is our big home run up here, but it really is a true four season destination for people downstate to come visit anytime," Powell said.

The honor was a part of Travel + Leisure's America's Best Small Towns of 2024 series.
