International Rabbit Day is right around the corner and we can't wait to celebrate with the furry friends in our lives. Not only is it a great excuse to spoil your bunny and share hundreds of photos of them online, but you can also raise awareness about their welfare and the organizations that help them.
Whether you treat your bunny to one of the best rabbit toys , or donate to a local animal shelter, there are lots of ways to get involved which we've listed below.
Rabbits are the third most popular pet in the Western world, according to the Journal of Animals (Basel) , but experts are increasingly worried about their welfare. In fact, the study revealed that 78% of UK vets do not think that bunnies' needs are being met. That's why it's super important to learn about rabbit care before bringing one home and to educate your peers who are thinking of getting one.

When is International Rabbit Day?
International Rabbit Day is on Saturday, 28 September 2024. It falls on the fourth Saturday of September each year.
What is International Rabbit Day?
International Rabbit Day is the annual celebration of bunnies and is a chance to promote their welfare and protection. Organizations encourage people to adopt rabbits, as opposed to buying them, and run educational workshops on how to take care of them. They might also host fundraising events, like bake sales and fun runs, to raise money for rescued rabbits.

Who started International Rabbit Day?
International Rabbit Day was started by The Rabbit Charity in 1998. Whilst this organization no longer exists, bunny lovers still celebrate the occasion every year.
How to celebrate on International Rabbit Day
1. Adopt a rescue rabbit
Did you know that 67,000 rabbits end up in shelters every year? So, if you're thinking about getting a bunny, we recommend adopting rather than shopping. Before you do so, make sure you're prepared for the responsibility - they're not as easy to look after as you might think and require lots of care.

2. Volunteer at a rescue shelter
If you're not ready to commit to adopting a bunny, you could volunteer at your local rescue center. You'll get the chance to spend time with them and make a positive difference to their lives. Alternatively, you might want to make a donation to support the work they do.
3. Educate and raise awareness
The best way to celebrate this special day is to educate yourself and others about their welfare. You could learn about what to feed a rabbit , how to house them, and the health care they require. Once you've finished your research, you can share it with fellow rabbit lovers.

4. Treat your rabbit to a new toy
Rabbits will spend around two to three hours playing and exercising daily, so they must have enough toys to keep them mentally and physically stimulated. As well as treating them to something new, you could try these games for rabbits .
